Hiring in Hydrology Resists the Slump New York Times - March 7, 2009 Demand for hydrologists has been predicted to grow 24 percent from 2006 to 2016, much faster than the average for all occupations, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Hydrologists study the distribution, circulation and physical properties of water, with hydrogeologists focusing specifically on groundwater.

Background: The Beaver River Watershed Alliance (BRWA) is accepting applications for the position of Program Assistant. The BRWA is a designated Watershed Planning and Advisory Council (WPAC) by the Government of Alberta under the Water for Life Strategy (2003) – www.beaverriverwatershed.ca. The Program Assistant will assist the Program Manager with outreach and education, budget management and reporting, project and contract management and other administrative requirements of the Beaver River Watershed Alliance.
Key Duties: Assist with the deliver day to day initiatives of the Beaver River Watershed Alliance according to the BRWA Strategic Plan and Terms of Reference as follows: Outreach and educationLiaise with and support Water Stewardship Groups (WSG) and WSG newsletter Assist with preparation of brochures, newsletters, etc. and website updates BudgetsAssist with preparation of financial budgets and monthly reports Membership and Volunteer development and maintenance Project development and maintenanceAssist with and/or manage specific projects, e.g. watershed enhancement
General Liaise with relevant vendors and consultants regarding services required by the BRWA Adhere to all LICA/BRWA policies and procedures, including specified deadlines
Qualifications Degree/Diploma or equivalent in Environmental Sciences, or related field Well developed interpersonal/communication skills including presentation, facilitation and process development Good understanding of watershed issues in the Cold Lake - Beaver River Watershed Strong organization skills, versatile and creative Strong computer skills Flexibility in work schedule, access to a vehicle and ability to travel to promote the BRWA
Terms: Contract to December 31, 2010, with strong possibility of review and renewal Approximately 25 hours per week to start with possibility to become full time (40 hours per week) Start date: June 1, 2010
